This is a project we started quite a while ago and we keep coming back to it. We had so many activities with Picasso, that it will take a few posts to cover them all.
The Tate Gallery for kids has created a DIY fortune teller to discover a bit about Picasso's life.
All sides of the fortune teller covers one aspect of his life and there is also an information sheet with 1-2 sentences you can read out for your little Bear. They are really short and concise, so really perfect for a young Bear.
Here it is:
Before playing with the fortune teller, I thought it would be great to talk a bit about Picasso.
First we looked through a few paintings, portraits and sculptures from Picasso and I have put together a few photos of the artist and people he painted, together with the portraits for us to look at.
I love his portraits and I always thought that theys are really abstract. When I put together the photo and painting of Dora Baar, one of the ladies Picasso painted several portraits of, I was completely surprised how close they are, how recognisable the lady is on the painting.
Have a look and feel free to download and print out the materials in this post if you would like to do the activities!
So we talked a but about Picasso and also looked at a video on youtube, which is created for kids:
Then little Bear cut out and folded the fortune teller.
Whilst you play with it, you can read the information Tate kids had provided on the info sheet.
As a last step, there is always a task for the kids, like " Do a drawing in one minute", "Draw a family portrait" etc.
Little Bear has chosen "Draw one of your dreams". He dreamt about having a pink-brown rabbit. :o)
