This is one of the challenges from Tate Kids (Tate Modern) to design your own piece of pop art, inspired by the famous artist, Andy Warhol.
In the 1960s Andy Warhol became known as one of the leading artists of the pop art movement. Pop artists felt, that art should reflect modern life and so they made art inspired by the world around them - from movies, advertising and pop music to comic books and even product packaging or prints of celebrities of the time.
Warhol was experimenting a lot by printing several copies of the same portrait photo, creating variations, often adding colours. Some of the most famous ones are of Marilyn Monroe.
First we talked with little Bear a bit about Andy Warhol and pop art, looked through a few of his images. I always think that is important to give some context before we play around with artists' styles or their work.
But now it was our time to do pop art! The idea is that you can simply take a favourite portrait photo, have a few prints of them and colour them with two colours each, then place them beside each other.
If you have any image adjusting possibility on your phone or computer, you can simply switch the photo to black&white (reduce 'saturation'). If the picture is a bit dark, you can also play around with 'transparency', so the print becomes more faded to allow colouring afterwards.
I have used Apple's Keynote, where I could play around with the photo and also do the duplication and arrangement of the photos.
Otherwise simply make a few black&white prints of the same picture and stick them on a sheet of paper and the colouring can begin!
Make sure that you have enough prints, because it is addictive and you want to colour beside your little Bear!
The end result is something you might want to frame for your wall!
