Recreate art!

Johannes Vermeer: De Melkmeid (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam)

The Rijskmuseum in Amsterdam and The Getty Center in Los Angeles both started a challenge on different social media sites and invited people to recreate art with household items.

So we also gave a go. We used the opportunity of visiting several museums online and let little Bear choose the paintings. He is used to visiting museums, so doing this online was a bit different but also interesting program. We visited and picked one painting from the Rijskmuseum in Amsterdam, the Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.

Beyond being an absolute fun process to recreate art, our kids learn a bit about artists and paintings and similarly to the stop motion movie project we wrote about earlier, it teaches about perspectives, colours, light etc by observing closely the paintings and trying to figure out how can it be recreated for the camera.

For one of the picture we posed ourselves with clothes and objects found at home, for the other two we used Playmobil and cardboard.
